Welcome!
Meeting Location: Pilgrim United Church, 3319 Painter Road, Victoria, BC.
Mailing Address: Post Box 28064, Westshore RPO, Victoria, BC, V9B 6K8.
Date and Time: The fourth Thursday of each month. We alternate meeting times, evening 7 PM and morning 9:30 AM except during July and August when the meetings are both at 7 PM.
At our monthly meeting we give members and guests an opportunity to meet others who have the same interests. We have open informal meetings where all levels of Quilters are welcome. Our "Show and Share" is very popular. Everyone is welcome to bring a quilt of any size to show other members. Usually there is a story about the creation of the quilt which we all love to share and hear.
Westshore Charity Quilt Society: Our mandate is to make and donate "Quilts From the Heart" to the Cridge Transition House for Women (Hill House) and their dependent children who are experiencing relationship violence and abuse. Hill House provides safe emergency accommodation for up to 30 days, supportive counseling, information about the dynamics of relationship violence and referrals to community supports. Most importantly, Hill House provides women with an opportunity to support and be supported by other women in the same situation.
Quilts from the Heart: Members of the guild gather together periodically to hold cutting bees, sewing bees, etc. Patterns are chosen, the fabric selected and the projects begin. These quilts are sewn for the beds at Hill House. Once the women feel confident enough to begin their new life, a quilt is given to them as a gift from our members in the hope that the love that went into making the quilt gives them comfort and hope. The quilts are very much appreciated and have been described as "a hug from a stranger". Approximately 70 to 90 quilts are donated annually. Also, as funds are available, the members sew wheel chair lap quilts for people living in homes for seniors.
Sewing Days: Everyone is encouraged to join us at Pilgrim United Church on the second Thursday and third Saturday of each month from 10am until 2pm to work on your current project. Bring your sewing machine, lunch and a coffee cup.
Satellite Groups: Small groups of ladies meet twice a month usually at someone's home, to make quilts for the transition house. Groups usually consist of 6 members, who get together chat, and sew. Our Satellite Group coordinator is Linda Harris (250-478-2030).
Library: We have a substantial library of quilting magazines and books which are available at the monthly meetings, and sewing days. New books are added monthly. Our librarian is Marlyn Simpson (250-478-6535) or masim@telus.net.
Come to a meeting, sign in as a guest, see what we have to offer, and meet a group of great people!
